beginning of spring for us!

Oh, it's nice when the winter is so short!! Saw the first daffodil/narcissus blooming two days ago. Bulbs are popping up all over our yard and things are growing. Looks like we're in for an early spring.

Here too. My Coreopsis are blooming, and the Hostas I've been playing with have buds swelling--earliest ever for them!

Wow, lucky you! The daffodils are just emerging now here...those are the only signs of life I've seen so far. :)

Yes, I believe the bulbs will be a bit late here this year. In our 2 week hard freeze, I actually had some of my earliest bulbs to suffer freeze scorch on their leaves. On the other hand, last week was in the sixties all week and bulbs are popping up by the dozens. My Ogon spirea put out some blooms and the little leaf buds are showing green. Nothing new there, though. ....Now, if it would just stop raining, I could finish putting out mulch! :)

I'm happy! Today I found several budding snowdrops. Usually I don't notice them until they're in full bloom, but I needed cheering up so I went looking. We had 10 days below freezing in early Jan. (very unusual for here), but also full snow cover, so it looks like most of the perennials survived. And now snowdrops. Oh yeah, I found a clump of crocus leaves too.

Wow, I'm so jealous...but happy for all of you seeing the first signs of Spring!!! Winters are sooo long here in upstate NY....It will be a couple months till we see any sign of life!!! Well, except for the Helebores...we will be seeing them in a few weeks!

The problem with early emergence of spring bulbs or perennial growth in more northerly climes, of course, is that it can get knocked back hard when typical winter weather reoccurs. It's not unusual here to see some growth occurring during warm spells, but I'm happier when dormancy lasts as long as it's supposed to.

On the other hand, meteorological winter is more than halfway over. :)

I'm looking forward to more snow...

Winters not over yet... long range forecasts show bitter cold returning to most of the US over the next week or so.

I'm glad for those of you seeing signs of spring, gives me hope even though I KNOW I have lots more cold and snow on the way. Enjoy those lovelies.

First white crocus yesterday in our front yard. Now we have the first purple with white edge crocus today!!

So much fun.

You people are making me very jealous...All I have seen since the end of Dec. is snow and more is expected today on top of the first 12" and then the last 8". I'm in central Va. and it is going to take a long time for all of this to melt..

The El Nino weather pattern has brought spring earlier this year to the Pacific Northwest.

It was 80 degrees here today. A little too hot for my tastes but a lot of my plants are pushing new growth or starting to bloom.
