| I've had purple yarrow that has grown beautifully for 6 years. However last year in 2011 it grew, but about half as tall as it usually gets. What gives? What do I need to do to get them back to normal, divide them? TIA. |

| with the paucity of facts ... sure.. why not ... and work in some compost to refresh the soil ... otherwise.. who knows why it did what it did... freeze ... thaw.. bugs.. weather.. physical injury.. lack of fert.. go for it.. no perennial maintains vigor forever.. so make it younger.. by cleaning it out... and composting it ... ken

| I'm actually surprised that it has been growing for six years. In each catalogue I receive, it says that they should be divided and replanted often(like at least each third year) to retain vigour. |

| I have found that, for me, yarrow does not like rich soil or extra fertilizer. It rather thrives on benign neglect and loves hot, sunny weather, but may wilt if it gets too dry. Since it is rather vigorous under these conditions, I have divided mine to keep it in bounds, move it out of the shade, move it closer to some other plant for the color combo, give some away, etc. Sounds like you need to divide it. |

This past spring I planted what as I recall was Strawberry Seduction in an area with lots of clay and little natural moisture. It was an outstanding performer all summer and fall and early winter. |
