Ageratum invasion?

Planted some of those cute tiny Ageratum that come in flats as annuals at my Mom's last spring. Now it looks like the taller, wilder, perennial kind is sprouting all over the area. Is that possible - do the two cross breed? Or is this something else coincidentally similar looking? There are no other plants in the area to which I would attribute the sprouts, which are in too heavy of a concentration in a particular area of a large bed to have been wind or animal deposited - I think. I did bring in some bulbs from an abandoned yard about this time last year, so they could be seeds from there that have now decided to sprout but the pattern of sprouts doesn't really go with that theory.

I couldn't get an overall pic worth sharing at this point, the closeup I took is fuzzy, will redo when I'm over there again...
