| Planted some of those cute tiny Ageratum that come in flats as annuals at my Mom's last spring. Now it looks like the taller, wilder, perennial kind is sprouting all over the area. Is that possible - do the two cross breed? Or is this something else coincidentally similar looking? There are no other plants in the area to which I would attribute the sprouts, which are in too heavy of a concentration in a particular area of a large bed to have been wind or animal deposited - I think. I did bring in some bulbs from an abandoned yard about this time last year, so they could be seeds from there that have now decided to sprout but the pattern of sprouts doesn't really go with that theory. I couldn't get an overall pic worth sharing at this point, the closeup I took is fuzzy, will redo when I'm over there again... |

| I suspect that the tall variety you have is hardy ageratum, Eupatorium coelestinum, and its arrival in your yard doesn't have anything to do with having planted annual ageratum. In my garden hardy ageratum spreads/reseeds some, but the excess is easy to remove. I see complaints from deep South gardeners about its invasiveness, so apparently it can behave more aggressively there. |
