I know it may have been to late, but I went ahead and basically cut down all my liriope. I havent seen any of my neighbors do it. But I got tried of how ugly and brown it was, spring is starting in a few more weeks so was pruning it down the wrong thing to do at this time?

Your message sent me to the window to look at my very crowded patch. It's about 80-90% green. The leaves are long because I haven't trimmed it for a while. I've never had any problem with cutting it off at any time of the year. As soon as we have thaw I plan to cut down, divide and start a new edging and patch a couple places in a different bed where there are holes in the border. Chris

better early.. than late.. or not at all ... plants that go dormant in fall.. can be pruned EITHER late fall or late winter ... quit worrying ... i am jealous you got some fresh air and excersize ... it was in the teens here in MI yesterday ... i was not out trimming up perennials.. if i needed to say that.. lol ... ken ps: and if you wanted to move it.. now would be the best time.. because it is still dormant.. it would not have even known it was moved .... [in case you need more excersize ....]

Lol thx ken. I was just trying to do my own "experiment" with dividing I heard liriope was very tough so it wouldn't really affect its growth. And I have to laugh at the fact that your still in the deep freeze . We've got mid- 50s and low 60s infact today I saw some bud break on my dogwood, home run roses, and boxwoods and some on the azaleas. I'm so stoked but it seems winter has ended a bit earlier than last year

" We've got mid- 50s and low 60s" I'm trying not to cry over the fact that you are 70+ degrees warmer than I am at this time. I suppose I could get out the jackhammer and try to do some dividing.

don't be silly, hostaholic- this is the time for eating cake, reading thrillers and staying under the duvet - time enough for racing around the garden next month. If you are really desperate, do a little indoor seed sowing.
