| About the only Verbena I've tried that blooms even in the heat is Verbena Sissinghurst. I'd like to pair it with an equally heat resistant "blue-ish" Verbena. Now technically V. Sissinghurst is perennial but it's about a 65/35 chance it will survive our winters. But I don't mind replanting it, nor will I this "new blue" Verbena if it is easily accessible. I've heard alot about Verbena Blue Princess for example. Does anyone have experience with it. Also Blue Lanai has been mentioned to me. Just about any info will be appreciated. Oh, please no V. Homestead Purple. Not the color I want....Maryl |

| I have seen in our area a lovely lavender blue verbena that has extremely fine, ferny foliage. A friend had it in a pot on her front porch and it bloomed the entire summer. Somehow I think it is verbena tenuisecta. When she planted it, I figured it would fry in our summer heat, but it did extremely well. |

| Thanks for responding Donna. Having followed up on Blue Princess Verbena I see that the dark lavender one that Santa Rosa Gardens carries may be the same one with a truer color description as the name. Anyway, I guess I'll just have to answer my own question with trial and error. The only thing I could find out on the botanical name of Blue Princess was V. x hyrid, so who knows what that entails. The reason I'm so hot after this particular verbena is because it's a Texas Superstar, and what grows in Texas heat grows here..Again thanks for taking the time to give me your observations....Maryl |

Hi, I found what looks like an aggie prof who says Blue Princess is aka Biloxi Blue & lists a vendor (poor rating so I'd want to ask people in forum for their experience buying there). He's got a form for Texas related questions so maybe he could tell you of a nursery in or near Texas that carries this plant. I had Biloxi Blue a long time ago & think it was lavender with a bluish cast. I killed all my perennial verbena because I thought it was drought tolerant & didn't water it enough in blazing hot weather. | Thanks River for including the helpful information. I ended up ordering the Princess Dk. Lavender from Santa Rosa gardens (along with some other plants), as I believe it may be the same as Princess Blue. Apparently the original Princess Blue verbena came down with a virus and lost it's vigor so was dropped from the Texas recommended plants list. They've solved the problem supposidly and now the plants should be as good as in the "old" days. I don't like the fact that you have to shear it back after initial bloom, but we will see how that works out....On a side note, I happened to notice yesterday that even after this brutally cold winter that the snow cover may have insulated my Verbena Sissinghurst enough that some of it survived. It truly is a remarkable Verbena for the south....Again, thanks for taking your time to respond....Maryl |

Hi, Maryl I would be interested hearing about your results with Blue Princess. I, too, am a great fan of all flowers blue to purple. On another note, there is a white verbena that is called Snowflurry. I got it as a passalong and have had it continually for twenty years or more. It's about a foot tall and slightly wider, and blooms a good 8 months or more per year here. It seeds around, though is not a nuisance, and is super easy from cuttings too. If you come up on it, it's a winner. |

| As always Donna I look forward to your comments as we garden in similar southern summer sauna conditions. I've made a note of Snowflurry.....The reason Blue Lanai was mentioned was that I saw it last early fall in bloom at our teaching garden. It had been a particularly brutal summer, with 10 inches less rainfall then usual (I was so sick of watering I can't even begin to tell you). That meant anything (or anyone) that looked good in late summer made my eyes perk up. Trouble is I don't know how it bloomed during the heat....I'll be checking out what our nurseries carry in the way of "blue" verbenas this year....Maryl |

| I planted four Verbena plants in pots and they were fine for a few days and now they're dead completely I watered them every day so I know they getting enough water. Can verbena take summer heat in the 90s? I live in Las Vegas area |

| blue princess is sold by Plant Delights. I purchased some of those this year and they are doing quite well. any of the verbenas on Plant Delights are all hardy in zone 7, so you can be sure that any of those would do well for you. I'll see if I can get a pic for you today. let me know if I can help further. |

| We grow some called 'Homestead Purple' that blooms really well and is a perennial. |
