| My in-laws wants really tough plants that they can see year after year without much care. I planted a few Siberian Squill. In many areas, this may be even considered a weed. I was surprised that I haven't seen a single one appear yet. Still, this may be early and I have no idea what the leaves look like.
One idea so far was to plant a bunch in the lawn, which doesn't look so great because it lives underneath a silver maple. I figure it may be nice to get a nice carpet of blue in spring and have then disappear by the time you need to mow the lawn. Paul |
Follow-Up Postings:
|
| The leaves look like Snowdrops', but broader. I cannot see mine yet either. |

| the leaves look like fat chubby grass ... my bulbs are nearly on the surface ... especially all the seedlings.. and they are barely a 1/2 inch tall as of yesterday ...so if you planted yours 2 inches deep .. well.. if you buried them at any depth .. beyond an inch.. they simply may be behind ... hold out hope .. and dont forget.. warm air.. does not mean warm soil 2 inches down in the great white north ... patience man.. lol .. ken |

| I think I may have buried them 2 inches deep. Come to think of it, there were some stuff that looked vaguely like fat chubby grass (I thought it was some weird crab grass), so may be they were out but I can't seem them mixed in with the grass. I may not be cut out for a gardener, I am extremely impatient. I notice in an article that Siberian Squill's adaption is being able to survive earthmovers. Apparently, there are several colony in Urbana, IL that got there because they dump dirt for a shopping mall there. Paul |

| Looking around again, I do notice a few fat looking grass blades. I guess Ken was right. Looking around the yard, I also realized that the in-law's yard already has some Siberian Squill. Apparently, she planted some 10 years ago and it formed a small colony. She thought they were periwinkles,so basically I planted stuff they already have. Paul |
