bergenia not blooming, help!

Planted 3 bergenia by my front door 3 years ago. So far 1 died and the other two haven't bloomed for 2 years. The spot they are in have moist (but not soggy) soil in partial sun. What am I doing wrong? Do they prefer somewhere drier, less sun, more sun, etc?

Some may think that is a very fortunate occurrence, as the pepto-bismal pink flowers are not everyone's cup of tea!! It sounds like you are offering it reasonably appropriate growing conditions - IME, this plant is extremely adapatble to a range of conditions and will tolerate some tough spots, including sun or shade, heavy root competition, very dry soils and minimal fertility. Overly wet or poorly draining soils should be avoided but average moisture OK.

Maybe just wait another season? Sometimes plants sulk for awhile after planting but 2 years should be long enough.

I like the bloom if I want more seeds, otherwise I really grow them for the plant foliage and its texture. If you are primarily interested in bloom and bloom color there are many plants that would do well in your location. Al

gardengal48, hah! I actually love their flowers but I guess I love pink a lot so it makes sense.

I dug them up since I was re doing the bed and now they are just sitting in the shade. Very tempted to just toss them.

That's how well mine are doing. However I do like
the red leaves in the fall and winter. It is kind of
cool foliage

In recent years , especially in Germany, many new bergenias has been created. They bloom more readily and have bigger flower heads. I once had a cultivar Abendglut, with SHOCKIGLY PINK flowers.
