perfect partner for Karl Foerster

hi,
I am looking for nice plant combos with feather reed grass (calamagrostis) Karl Foerster. Any suggestions based on what looks good with it in your garden? I garden in zone 3/4.
Thanks!

Your choices are huge, anything that contrasts in shape and texture: Sedum 'Autumn Joy' or similar variety, Agastache foeniculum (several), Achillea especially 'Fireland' or 'Terracotta'(several), swath of Perovskia, Pardancandas, etc.

I used to have the variegated form of the grass, 'Overdam', paired with a peach David Austin rose. It was spectacular in the spring, the rosy blooming plumes looks beautiful with the rose. Now the grass is paired with 'Mardi Gras' Helenium and is even prettier than the first combo!

Karl is a cool season grass, so looks nice in the spring, but also has pretty yellow-tan flowers in the fall. The only thing I wouldn't pair with it is another vertical plant like veronicastrum. I would probably go with something that blooms in the summer or fall.

I am getting a Karl Foerster, and I think I'm going to put it with my beautyberries. :)

I like this grass in pairs or in three's, used to frame a large busy plant (cimicifuga), or to add vertical interest along a fence. Since it will tolerate part-shade it is very versatile. I have it on either end of a border; one side has Joe-pye weed, sedum, Russian sage and coneflowers. The other side has bee balm, daylilies, calamint and geraniums. I also have Korean feather reed grass on a berm with sedum, gaura and small shrubs (barberry and spirea).

RE: Rugosa Roses

I purchased a white double shrub rose bush yesterday and was told it would thrive well in our zone. The only name on the bussh tag was Karl Forester. Can anybody tell me more about this rose? I found one on line but it says zones 6a to 9.

The rose you are talking about grows 7' tall and wide, is an heirloom rose and can be grown to zone 4. The rose forum might be able to tell you more about it.
