Dahlia wilted and died

AiliDeSpain

I have a bunch of dwarf dahlias in four inch pots started from seed. Today I noticed one of my plants was wilted and falling over. I watered it to see if that was the problem and checked back several hours later and it was still wilted and droopy and some of the leaves were shriveling. Any ideas what would cause this? I have them under lights twelve hours a day, I bottom water when the pots are dry. When I dumped the plant out I did notice that the roots were starting to circle. Would them being root bound cause them to die suddenly?
Thanks for any insight.
Here is a photo of the remaining plant after I cut off most of the wilt..
