Yes, it's too late (or way too early) to plant tulips. They need more than a month of cold to bloom (usually 10 weeks or so).

considering they needed to go in in october.. to grow roots.. to spring forth now..

yes.. a bit late..

besides.. i doubt anyone is selling them right now.. and that what will stop you ...

unless youve had them in the garage since last fall ...

Matthew, I am in zone 5 also, and "rescued" several bags of tulip bulbs that I had given to my daughter-in-law last fall -- which she never got around to planting. humph! But a couple of weeks ago, I planted them in potting soil as they had begun to sprout after sitting in cold garage for months, and they are growing!!! It remains to be seen if they will flower properly, but I have hopes that they will. It certainly wouldn't hurt if you did the same just to see what happens. Good luck!

nothing to lose roxy ....

but my bet would be 90% leaves.. and maybe one weirdo who might flower ...

but they should be in sync for the following spring.. all else OK

they need a cold period to set the bloom.. so if they were in a cold garage.. and didnt dry too much.. well.. maybe..

but if they were in the house.. and no chill period... no flower ....

Matthew, if you have them, plant them. Even if they don't bloom this year it is better than not planting them.
