Sapphire Globe Thistle

Hi--

I really love blue flowers and plants and this weekend I planted a Sapphire Globe Thistle. It's in a bed with fairly poor soil (some clay). I've watered it twice and the hole plant just flopped right to the ground. Is this normal? At first I thought my kids must have stepped on it.. but no. Did I kill it?

Echinops is very easy to drown, especially in winter . If you made a mud pool out of this place, you probably watered it too much. I would dig it up and let the soil dry a little.
