Perennials for Containers

I am tired of buying annuals for my outdoor containers, so I am looking for perennials that look attractive in containers and will survive the winter. I do not bury any of my container during the winter months. They are about 16" in diameter and 20" deep. I have had luck with hosta, heuchera, daylilies and Autumn Joy sedum. Our invasive herbs like spearmint and catnip are also in containers.

What I need is some suggestions or pictures of what plants would look great together (color, foliage, height, etc.). I have two containers that will receive morning sun and two that will receive afternoon sun. I have a green and white hosta (Francee or sport of) already planted in the morning sun pots and plan to add a dark leaf heuchera.

I use Yucca 'Color Guard' in mine with various Delosperma and Sedums. I don't know if they would work in your zone, but they are great here.

I use Corydalis lutea in containers - not sure how that grows in your region. Would be a nice contrast to the hostas and heuchera, though. Long flowering period is a plus, too.

oregana 'Hopley's with a little molinia 'Edith Duzku' and pale pink tritoma. Heucheras and heliotrichon. Festuca glauca and callirhoe (poppy mallow, penstemon and helianthemums, chinese foxglove (rehamannia elata) and salvias. osteospermum and astelia. convolvulous cneorum and bowles black viola, millium effusum and vinca minor 'Gertrude Jekyll - a quick run through a few of mine (my whole garden is essentially a pot garden). spellings a bit dodgy though.

I have two concrete planters on either side of my walkway that I planted Sedum. Tall Sedum like Autumn Joy (but not Autumn Joy) in the middle, there are Tall Sedum with color leaves like Frosty Morn, and Black Jack that give it the pop. Circling the tall sedum is Tri-color and Angelina. It makes a very colorful planting.

I've been growing Asiatic lilies in containers for the last three years or so.

I simply move the containers in the garage during the winter months and by March pot is filled with new sprouts.

For me, It's also a way from keeping the rabbits from decimating the plants, which they do if planted in ground.

I used to grow echinacea in a container when I only had a patio and no yard. It did well.
