| Don't know what kind I have. It's a very pale pink. Started with one plant 3 yrs ago and it's virtually taken over both ends of my garden (think I must have dug them all up in the middle when 'renovating' the garden or they'd probably be there, too).
I know they spread profusely. Question is - will they choke out my other plants? They have such a shallow root system that I doubt it, but then again (1st pic) I have some special day lilies growing in same spot. You can see two but there's a few more new ones covered up by the primrose and don't know if that will slow their growth (not enough sun?) At other end (2nd pic) there's a guara bottom right and mystery plant top left. Just worried other plants will get swallowed up, either visually or physically. Wondering if I should get in there and take some chunks out, leaving some open areas? I do love that they seem to keep the weeds at bay. What's been your experience with letting this plant go crazy?

| some peeps like the english garden look.. a riot of interwoven plants ... others prefer the other extreme.. very formal ... no plant touching another.. ergo .. how can we tell you what you like??? and that is the bottom line in YOUR garden ... when in doubt .. hesitate .. at any time during the season .. they get too unruly .. just kill a bunch of them.. dig them out and be done with them ... its not like you dont have more.. lol .. good luck |

| Ah yes, I bought mine 2 years ago. it has done nicely in my garden. I prefer to leave it and let it fill in the empty spots. As you said, it's pretty shallow rooted and easy enough to pull out. It looks as though mine might have been overtaken by some highly aggressive grass that I didn't pull so I might replace it and let it start over! :) |

| Ken - looking for the cottage garden look. But my concern was more about was I going to be sorry for letting it get out of control, i.e., from what you can see by my pics, was that overkill as far as crowding out my other plants. So, Daylily, I guess I'm more like you...liking it to fill in empty spots. I, too, have some tall 'weeds' with little white thingys on top (like miniture wheat) here and there that will be hard to get down to root, so will follow your lead and just pull up chunks along with the weeds. Like you said, Ken, not like I don't have more....LOL Answers were perfect timing since I wanted to tackle this issue today so thanks to both !! |
