| What are some dependable sources for these newer type heuchera plants such as "Southern Comfort," "Georgia Peach" "Amber Waves" and the like.
I see them at the chain garden centers such as HD and Lowe's...but there aren't many varieties to choose from. What about some of the online nurseries. I want a plant that will look half decent the first year. Appreciate your thoughts. |

| "rave on" has been rated as the heaviest nearly continuous bloomer. It has pretty enough foliage, though I wanted it for the flowers.Great Garden Plants (the nursery) sells it. I haven't seen it for sale anywhere else on line, though I didn't do an exhaustive search. That's the only one I searched for on line. Most of them I can find locally. |
|
| This place was recommended to me from another site, http://ilovehostas.net/ind.html I have gotten some from a Santa Rosa Garden recommended here already. They do not have a large selection but they are reasonable for the ones they have and you get a good size plant for a reasonable price. perennial nursery has a few and you will get a a big plant. He grows his plants on the site so if they are not hardy as some Hercs are weak he does not sell them. I like them and have not been able to get many locally even at my local nursery do not carry many but since I like them I wait for sales at the on line nursery above and brought them slowly because they can be expensive.

| Lowes has Georgia Peach and Southern Comfort in gallon pots here right now. They are the largest Heuchera I've seen anywhere for sale. You can really find some good plants there if you visit regularly. Great Garden Plants is a good online source for several new varieties. I've always received good plants from them. |
|
| I agree with echinaceamaniac. The best Heuchera I bought last year (and I have most of the new varieties) was Binoche from Home Depot. Huge healthy plant in one gallon pot for $7. Online pictures do not do justice, this one is stunning. For online sources, Perennial Nursery recommended above should be great. Chris is wonderful person to deal with and his plants are always great. A couple of other sources: 2. Garden Harvest Supplies |

| alina, I did not suggest Garden Crossings because of my experience was so bad. I hope it was a one bad order accident. The plants I received had such little root none survived. I had a 50 gift certificate for them and nothing survived. and then I received another gift certificate for 75 the follow year from a friend and I was so upset that I was going to have to waste my time planting their expensive little plants and watch them die. I should be getting my order next week I hope I get your experience. |
|
| Marquest, I am really sorry that you had a bad experience with Garden Crossings... Despite their high prices, I order from them every year starting in 2007. Never had a bad plant. Here is the roots of the Clematis I got from them - one of the best Clematis I ever got from mail company: And here is Tree Peonies (also from them, 3 years after planting in the garden): This is the first year I was slightly disappointed with my order. I ordered new Hydrangea Bobo. All three plants were tiny. They do look good 3 weeks after planting, so I hope they all will thrive some day. Did you contact them about bad plants you got? |
|
| I was in a bad place that year. My Mom was very sick and she passed the following year. When I got the second gift certificate as a sympathy gift from a friend I wanted to cry again. But I did post a negative on Garden Watchdog and they contacted me and are making it good. So their customer service was good. I have been gardening and ordering for 30 years and I have never had such a bad experience. Even with plants from Michigan Bulb and you know how bad they are. lol You said they were small this year, I am wondering if the positive was before the economy went down the toilet and they are rushing plants out the door before their time. I just feel they are one of the most expensive online nursery they should be larger and better plants. My order is coming in next week I will post pics. If they are going to start to send smaller plants they are going to lose good people like you. |

| Do your peonies have names? |
|
| I found the receipt. The Peony names are: Paeonia suffruticosa 'Shimanishiki' I think the last one is Rimpo, but I can't find the receipt. Back to original post. Another good source for Heucheras is Mason Hollow Nursery. Great plants and good selection. |

| Alina, I said I would post when I received my order this year. I have not taken them out of the pots to see the roots yet but the plants look good. I got larger plants from Hallson and they send a bonus thank you plant. You would think when you have a order over 100.00 they would send something. It is good business. I ordered, Bloomerang Lilac, (replacement they sent died) |

| These Heuchera babies (and other plants) look lovely! Hope you are happy with order from Garden Crossings. I remember that I was able to divide the Heuchera I received from them into 3 separate plants when received it. Clematis had better roots than those I got from famous Clematis-only nurseries. My small Hydrangea and roses I received from them this spring look great. We will have 90F this week - a good test for baby plants with transplanting shock. |

| Thank you alina, We are suppose to be hot this week also but rain all week so that will give everything a good start. The Hercs are not that big. They look good but they are not big. I am happy they look healthy but I have told my friends to not get anymore gift certificates from them. For the price and size I have done better. The Bloomerang Lilac was a little seedling. I saw them at Costco for less and they were huge. These are liners they got and did not grow them out long enough. I put it in the nursery bed and will hope for the best. The clematis are the best of the lot. If they are going to go smaller they need to throw in a thank you plant like some of the other vendors I have dealt with. Greed will get you less in the long run. Word gets around. |
