I know we are all without temptation here and always do our research before purchasing, right? Well, just in case you had a little slip this year, I would like to know, what was your impulse buy(s) so far this year? Me, I spotted Coreopsis Cosmic Eye & Mercury Rising and picked those up. Mercury Rising was already on my want list and I had looked at Cosmic Eye as well, but didn't really think I would see them locally. Also picked up a Gaillardia "Burgundy Picotee". I haven't had great success with Gaillardia's in the past, but thought I would try one more after seeing the gorgeous color of this one. AND a Scarlet carpet rose. Totally impulse buy, but again, irresistably gorgeous color and I do have the perfect place to put it. I'm a bad, bad girl. So, how about you? Pick anything up that was totally unplanned?

A very appropriate question for me as today I picked up 'Valentine' bleeding heart. Didn't need it, don't know where to put it but when I saw it I had to have it.

Yes indeedy. I stopped by Lowes the other day and found a sale rack of Hellebores. I didn't get them. Then I regretted it and went back and picked up a 'Golden Lotus' and 'Peppermint Ice'. Did I need them? No. Do I really have room for them? Heck no. Did that stop me? Never has before and likely won't in the future. :-P CMK

Didn't need it, don't know where to put it but when I saw it I had to have it. Yup...that is the perfect definition of an "impulse buy"!

I bought D.s. 'Valentine' too but I found a spot for it right away echoing the color of some Huecheras I bought last year. I still have at last fifty plants next to my greenhouse with no places for but also bought Tulipa 'Fire of Love', Primula 'Green Lace', Huechera 'Marmalade', a red stemmed Solomon's seal and I can't remember what else....

Not many impulse buys here. I go with the intention of purchasing plants--sometimes I just don't know which ones until after I see what is available! Following the ---Didn't need it, don't know where to put it but when I saw it I had to have it.-- definition though, puts me in serious listing territory. So do the nursery coupons that require $50-60 purchase before getting the $10 discount. This year...so far...that I remember... Sisyrinchium (Lucerne, Rocky Point and Greyhound Rock) An a bunch that have faded from memory into the landscape. If you are a bad, bad girl, I should keep an eye out for a visit from SWAT. ;-)

Didn't need it, don't know where to put it but when I saw it I had to have it. That quote is going to echo in my head when I go plant shopping later this week with a gardening friend who is NO HELP whatsoever when it comes to saying "No." There are things on my Wants List that I hope are sold out when I get to the nursery. With 100+ pots of winter sown perennials on my breezeway still needing homes, it is unthinkable I might actually purchase more from a nursery but I anticipate that's exactly what will happen. Still, it won't be a true cottage garden until the mulch between the plants is no longer visible... right?

Bought some bareroot berry bushes (tayberry, blackberry, raspberry) and a white currant today. I'm going rip out the grass in front and put em' there! I've spent two or three (i.e. too many) years thinking of what I want to do out there. Time to just do something. Now I have them I HAVE to do it, LOL. CMK

I only have pre-impulse buys anymore. I'm going to buy Rudbeckia 'Cherry Brandy' if I can find it locally, even though I just noticed it in the Bluestone catalog recently. Because it's a seed-grown strain, I want to see a lot of the that are blooming to pick out a good one. I think most of the recent over-hybridized American prairie Asteraceae are kinda hideous, but I like the look of that one.

Well, my debauchery continues, it would seem. I came upon a few can't resists today and, well, couldn't resist. I got a black and blue salvia and a Midknight Blue Agapanthus. What gets me is I see them and say, ooooh, I have always wanted a so-and-so! and then it has to go home with me. Well, good news is that I have a great spot for both of them, very close to each other, but not sure who needs to go to the back, though. They will be a bit diagonal of each other, I think the Agapanthus will end up a bit taller, especially if I trim the salvia, which I will probably need to do. Hope they look good together!

Ummmmm......I'm in NC currently, and tomorrow we're heading over to Raleigh. I really enjoy the farmer's market and in general pick up some plants that make me go "ahhhhhhh". Luckily that's the only place we're going. My mom and I are partners in crime, but since all the boys will be with us tomorrow, we'll be forced to control ourselves. They do take up valuable space in the car which will limit plant purchases. When it's just the two of us we fill the car to the brim! We may have to help feed our plant addiction with a visit to the Sarah P. Duke gardens. Hmmmmmm...I wonder if they have a nursery there......LOL!!! Trouble is, this is my 3rd trip down here and I already have 50 "impulse" buy plants waiting to come home with me from previous nursery forays!! Hardly any of which I know where to plant, but I just HAD to have them. I'll probably have plants at my feet for the 12 hr drive home. It would all be worth it!!

Recent impulse buys: When I saw 'Scarlet Storm' and 'Orange Storm' Flowering Quince locally, I had to have them both. The blooms look like Camelias. If you haven't seen those plants, look them up. They are very impressive plants!

Mercifully---- from a financial standpoint that is---- the weather is still cold here along the CT coastline because by now near the end of April I'd be into full-mode impulse purchasing. Did take a "look see" at this retailer's in Windsor, CT, on Sunday and came home with: 2 large Peonies @ $9.99 each--- Coral Sunset and Paula Fay 6/$36.00 1 qt. perennials ---2 Cherry Brandy Rudbeckias, 2 Primula Vialii, 2 Lychnis Lumina Broze Leaf Red All-in-all, I thought it was a SCORE! The question my DH had was, "Why do you bother winter sowing perennials when you're going to do this?" Molie
