| Can anyone tell me if this plant is slow to break dormancy? I haven;t seen any growth yet and sorta concerned this plant did great last year and really want it to come back...thank you |

| I have both the white and the pink Jupiter's Beard (Valerian) and they both have growth. They are not late breaking dormancy if mine are growing already. |

Mine are growing too. Centranthus is known for being short lived, especially if the soil isn't well draining. If you buy another make sure to let the plant go to seed every year to ensure you always have plants ;-) CMK |

| I started Centranthus ruber from seed last year, planted out three seedlings late summer, and although the plants are small, they've been up for a couple weeks already. |

| I didn't have any luck with mine returning. I know they like more alkaline soil, and mine is very acidic. And I think I read that they don't care for hot humid summers. Shame, I'd love to be able to grow it. |

| Mine are planted in acidic soil so maybe its the hot humid summer that is the problem. |

| They are a effectively a weed species here. They especially like growing straight out of limestone walls which shows the conditions they favour. Acid soil in a humid climate is probably about the worst for them. They are in full bloom here at the moment. |
