Question about walker's low.

I just purchased several of these plants after reading a lot about them. I could have sworn that I read that they can reach 3 feet tall, but the tag on the plants I bought shows that they will only be 10" tall. Did I get this wrong? I was planning on putting them in the back of my bed, but that won't work if they are only going to be 10" tall! How tall will they really get? If it matters, I'm in the Dallas area. Also, will they bloom all summer in my hot Tx heat? Thanks!

RE: Question about walker's low.

Here in my Zone 6 New Jersey garden, the Nepeta 'Walker's Low' blooms
at about 30", so I certainly don't know where they came up with 10", unless
they are confusing it with Nepeta 'Blue Wonder', which IS much shorter.
Checked about a half dozen other sources and they all indicate 30"-36"
in height for 'Walker's Low'. Plant information on mass produced plants
HAS been known to be in error in the past. . .

As for survival in the TX heat? Thought you might find the link to my
favorite plant reference (Missouri Botanical Garden) helpful.

Here is a link that might be useful: Missouri Botanical Garden

RE: Question about walker's low.

Many people still think Walker's Low means the plant is low. The name is a place name in England.

RE: Question about walker's low.

I bought/planted two N. Walkers Low last year and added them to my garden notes. Tags showed height is 24-36." There's new growth on both plants but it's too early for them to have grown full-size.

Carl, I have Missouri Botanical Garden saved as a favorite. It's my "Go To' resource for plant information.

RE: Question about walker's low.

I have several Walker's Low catmint and 30" is about the size mine get to each year. They are several years old. I live in New Mexico and they recieve intense sun and heat all day with no problem. I do give them supplemental water. I am in zone 7b and they bloom all summer long, right up until it freezes, at which point they die down to the ground. They are one of the first things to pop up in the spring and have been blooming for about 2 weeks.

RE: Question about walker's low.

Thank you for all the responses! It is definitely Walkers low catmint and the tags on all 8 plants I bought say it will only get 10" tall. I'm going to go ahead and plant it and hope it gets to 30". If it doesn't I can always move it. Thanks again!
