Sedums, or a weed?

Posted by bgaviator 6 (My Page) on

I have this stuff growing around a rock close to my garden. To me it looks like Sedum, and even feels like it as well. Is this in fact a Sedum of some type, or just a type of weed that looks/feels like Sedum?

It is a sedum. I have the same stuff covering a rock wall and like it lots, but man, oh man, does it spread and almost behave like a weed. The tiniest broken piece will root and grow wherever it touches the ground. You can chop it up, toss it on the ground and instantly have about a hundred new plants.

Looks like sedum kamtschaticum it behaves For me in bone dry soil. Given any moister look out I've had it root just throwing it on top of the ground. Still have it in a place or two. I don't let it flower any more and keep it trim. My vote is more weed than plant.

Have a similar one on a rock wall in my garden also. Spreads like wildfire. I think it's beautiful so I wrestle it back but let it stay. It just about strangled a peony bush this spring until I pulled it back.
I vote for let it stay!
