High Country Gardens sale

Since folks are posting heads-ups for sales, High Country Gardens has a bunch of plants on sale, mostly, though not entirely, plants for drier areas of the country. They seem to have a good reputation. I'm going to try out some plants for a hot, full sun bed on a slope to see if some of their more xeric plants do well there.

I explore High Country's website from time to time. I noticed they have some good sales right now too. I love drought, heat, full sun tolerant plants. Please follow up with how it works out for you. I've been scared to try it for fear I'm planting something that might not tolerate our humidity here in North Texas.

I'm here in West Virginia, and many of High Country Garden's plants have done well for me, though none of the ones marked with the western hat; they are really just for the west. I've had great luck with many of the salvias with greggii parentage--'Black Cherry', 'Ultra Violet', etc.

They have a pretty clear classification system that gives where a plant will grow well. This is my first order from them and I am pushing limits on some plants, but this is an area that will be quite hot and dry, so I'm going to try plants that I know like that. For the ones I'm pushing limits, I am trying just one to see how it does, but for ones I have grown before or I know will grow in my area given careful siting like Agastache rupestris, I got three.

I love High Country Gardens. I order red and yellow false yuccas from them from time to time. Those are some awesome plants. I've ordered Echinaceas from them too and they did well for me. Echinacea 'Pica Bella' from them has done well here. Their catalog is awesome too!

My order from their recent sale came a day earlier than the expected ship date.
I ordered from their end of season sale last year, and received the same sized plants.
I honestly thought it was a mistake then, or that they had nothing but odds and ends left so late in the season. I couldn`t figure out why they had such a good reputation.
BUT, they all had a lot of healthy, if a bit potbound, roots.
And they all came back and bloomed this year.
Thought I'd try their spring sale this year, thinking the plants might be bigger, but same general size.
Again, lots of healthy roots and I'm now sure they'll all do fine.
In their defense, I found a video explaining their plant sizes. To them, "a big, bushy plant is not necessarily the indicator of a healthy plant."
Just wanted to post my experience with them.
I've linked the video below.

I always pot up mail ordered plants into gallon pots and let them grow a bit before planting them out in the garden. That gives them time to get over being potbound (I remove tangled roots) and I can give them more attention watering.

I ordered my Karl Forester Grass from them last year and was very happy.
