What's wrong with my Heucherella Stoplight?

I've had this plant for a couple of years now & the first year it did wonderful, last year it started out great & then started to get the dark spots that ended up nearly killing the plant. This year it's already starting out looking rough with just a few new sprouts & the colors are pale & it has been off & on cool here, but not hot yet. This picture makes it look greener than it actually is.

I can tell there is some insect issues too, but none can be found when I look. I will be moving this plant in the near future, since we just recently took out the redbud tree that was offering it afternoon shade. I'm just trying to salvage it getting it look like it has before. We seem to have a lot issues with a plant looking great one day & be totally dead the next.

**Thanks for any advice. This is the only plant of this kind that I have, so there's nothing else to compare it too.

Looks like some leaf spot of some type. Bacterial or fungal. How wet is it generally this time of year? How much bark mulch is there?

if you cant find bugs in the light..

look at night ... eh??? .. OMG .. it rhymed .. lol

looks like slug damage.. followed by tissue damage from the tissue insult ....

go out with the flashlight.. they hide in the mulch by day ...

get rid of the slugs.. and you might not have the leaf spot ...

if you ID one.. pull back the mulch to the canopy and add some slug bait underneath .... in other words.. pull back their hiding place ....

Well, it's not normally as wet as it has been this year & the mulch isn't very thick, maybe and inch & after the last downpour of 3 inches, my mulch was all afloat. We have very sandy soil here with the landscaping area amended when it was made 4 years ago. Nothing new added except when new plantings arrive.

I cut the plant back this spring in hopes of minimizing/alleviating this, but it appears to be returning.

What can I do about the moisture with all the rain we've had? The water doesn't stay, it drains off within a couple of hours. Should I move the mulch away from the base of the plant?
