Need something that can withstand dog urine and will discourage them from chewing on, laying upon and pulling out of the ground....yes they have toys and are walked but one is a terrier X and the other a lab X and are extremely playful and this is their turf!

We have an area between our house and sidewalk that's just under 3' deep on the west side. It's gets very hot afternoon full sun. Have one barberry that they don't mess with but I'm not a big fan, would rather not use those. There is also a large area on the south side of the yard that runs the length of the fenced yard that is full shade and we can't grow grass...need a good ground cover and don't want to fill it with rocks!

Tall order, I know, but please, HELP!!!
