You all where right about Anemone robustissima

It is robust!!

The first time I planted this, it croaked. Probably too much sun, drought year, not enough water.

Last year I tried again. One healthy nice plant, different location, better soil, more water etc. etc. By fall I had a very attractive, bushy plant and when it bloomed late summer into fall, I was enchanted. How could one have too many of these? How could something so delicate and beautiful be thuggish in any sense of the word? And then the winter of the POLAR VORTEX came. Surely it would be a goner. Nope.

Things are still emerging around here, but from the looks of it, my one original plant now occupies an area about 3 x 3 feet. At least I know it's hardy around here.

I planted 2 originals about 7 yrs ago and have been trying to remove them ever since. They run underground to places beyond the immediate area. Beware! I allow a small clump to grow each year in the right places, but am constantly pulling the wanderers all summer. Do you ever have issues with the leaves looking covered with black spots/disease? I usually cut those off and it doesn't seem to bother the plants.

Nope, no issues with the leaves. Luckily I planted this in a contained area where the goal was to allow everything to fight it out between themselves. I'll see after this season.

Yep. Well, at least you'll never have to buy another one :0p.

this is one of my nightmares. The tap root is so deep I can't just pull it out. Even spraying does not seem to get rid of it very well. another one I thought I would love is Eupatorium 'chocolate' dark leaves and white flowers in September. Then it reseeds green all over the landscape.
