I've come across my third guest in a year...first 3 Rose of Sharon, then a whole bunch of Snowdrops, now lots of these:

Thanks. Interesting, Wild Garlic, native wildflower in CT...looks like it's reaching for the light...all these sun-loving plants keep showing up in my shady yard.

It looks to me like Star of Bethlehem/Ornithogalum umbellatum, a bulb which spreads like a weed.

There are some photos on Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ornithogalum_umbellatum
or on an alternative gardening site which GW won't allow me to mention.

I agree, Ornithogalum umbellatum--I hate it!!!

I found this growing wild years ago and dug up a bulb. It's not wild garlic (battling those too) nor is it Star of Bethlehem (I have those growing wild in my yard). I can't remember what I strongly suspected what it is. I just know when it was in a large grouping it had a wonder smell.

Just enjoy them like I do!

little late in the season for star of beth .... isnt it????

regardless.. crush a leaf.. if it smells like onion.. or garlic.. its the allium family ...

if not.. its star or beth...

all my spring ephemerals are near gone in my z5 ... and i thought star was such.. but apparently i left mine at the old house long ago ...

turquoisefox - what makes you say it isn't Ornithogalum umbellatum? Certainly looks like it to me.

No, it's not too late for this nasty little beast. The few thousand I must have missed after I weeded out the first few thousand are blooming now. They could conceivably choke out kudzu vines.

I think it is Star of Bethlehem, thanks, the green stripe outside petals is a characteristic of SoB, no pun intended, I think they're cute.
