Veronica Crater Lake Blue not blooming well...

Hi everybody, I'm a fairly new gardener. I have three Veronica "Crater Lake Blue" plants which I purchased a year ago as very tiny starters. One of the three bloomed last year - I didn't expect any to bloom since they were so small. This year, they are all a good size but the flowers have been a major disappointment - only one or two flowers on each plant. The plants get bright shade in the morning and sun in the afternoon until about 5. I put quite a bit of alpaca poop in my garden this year. Could it be too heavily fertilized? I love the flowers but two per plant is not really worth it... any help would be great!

Hello...wish I had good experience with this plant to share, but I had one plant for about 4 years and moved it a couple of times, but it was such a poor performer for me, I finally shovel pruned it. But I usually got some flowering but it was not spectacular and it didn't last long at all. I was quite surprised after reading many references to it's long bloom period. I hope you have better luck with it than I did.

I have no experience with alpaca poop, but if there is a lot of nitrogen, it might give you a lot of foliage and few blooms. Are there any other perennials that have also been given the alpaca poop, that are not flowering either?

Crater Lake Blue is a seed strain. I shovel pruned all of mine. None of them could stand up even on hungry soil and the blooming time was very short as far as I recall. Definitely not worth the space in my view.

My Crater Lake Blue Veronica blooms heavily, though not for a long time (like noted by the above posters). I seem to recall mine didn't bloom much the first couple years either. Now several years later this is what I get:

Veronica teucrium 'Crater Lake' and Geranium sanguineum 'Vision Violet'
It is very useful in the spot I have it in, a small section wedged inbetween the rock lined pathway and an evergreen. A spot that is often stepped on by accident, lol. I could totally undersand not keeping it if space was limited and you wanted something with longer bloom time though.

Christinmk, that's beautiful! I actually have mine next to the same kind of geranium as the one in your picture (got it at the farmer's market and I don't know the name). So now at least I know that if the veronica ever blooms, it will be a good color combination. Mine also doesn't look that bushy. It's more of a trailer.

Prariemoon & wieslaw, I just read somewhere that veronicas almost never need feeding. I think I'll give it one one more year, with no more alpaca poop, and if it doesn't get better out it goes. Thanks for your input, everybody.
