Holly and Ginkgo

Two questions:
First, I have a holly tree about 10 feet high. It has never had berries or blooms. Does that mean it's a male tree? Is there such a thing? It is tangled at the bottom with ivy. Could that be what's keeping it from blooming. I know I should probably cut it out, but I think it might need an ax, it's so thick and tough. :(

My ginkgo tree--I bought this at a fair about 16 years ago. It's still only about 7 feet tall. It is growing SO slowly. Is this normal, or should I do something to help it out? It seems pretty healthy otherwise. Are there miniature ginkgos?
