| Phew, I feel a little better reading ya'lls lists. I am not supposed to be getting ANY new plants now because this is my (supposed) year of soil improvement and garden 'bones' design. Still brought home Shasta daisy Becky, a pink salvia (can't think of name), morning light miscanthus, magenta dwarf iris, heuchera beaujolais and a flat of pachysandra. Also bought some Aronia shrubs, Juneberries, Sweetshrub Venus, a jostaberry and a gogi berry. Now I keep wondering if I can still order some hardy peaches. My sour cherry is finishing up flowering and I feel quite enthusiastic about growing more fruit. :). And more flowers. And shady stuff. Sometimes I feel as though I need an intervention!! |

| -Lisa, me too! I say I have no more room and then I go and make some, lol. I have that Filipendula and it is neat. It hasn't bulked up the way I hoped it would, but the flowers look like little creamy clouds atop wiry stems ;-) That Mukdenia is very cool. I keep debating weather I should try one or not but then always forget and buy something else, lol. -tonsoftrilliums, doesn't it always seem like the years you really want to find something for a particular area you don't and then when you aren't planning on getting anything you find EVERYTHING you want?! I'm doing a lot of fruit (berry shrubs) this year too. First I need to rip up the grass ;-* |
| and bagged me a 'Wild Swan' Anemone I am so jealous. I have coveted this flower for a long time. It wont be available in my neck of the woods until June. Please keep us up to date on its progress CMK! |
| A whole new garden! Probably about 125 plants. Redid my whole foundation planting across the front. Have I stopped at that? Of course not! Now that's obsession! |

| Christin, I have a nice chunk to spare. It is all green right now but will turn red in the fall. |

| Anemone 'Wild Swan' looks nice. I will have to keep an eye out for it. I have to think about what is new and make a list; 4.5 months is a loooong time in a SoCal garden. |
| Nothing - yet. But I plan to make a visit to the nursery before Memorial Day and pick up a few choice things. I did just order some seeds tonight. Mostly I start my plants from seed, and simply could not resist trying some more of the Echinacea varieties at Swallowtail. Got E. purpurea 'Magnus Superior', 'Prairie Splendor', and 'Baby Swan'. They will be sowed upon receipt for bloom next year! Also bought a few annuals, such as Asclepias 'Silky gold'. In general, I haven't been that impressed with the performance of their fancy "seed strains", but the Echinacea seeds have done pretty well. I've already got over 100 containers (many are cups) of seedlings out there, including some interesting trees and shrubs that I have NO idea where I am going to plant. Why on earth would I need more plants? Yes I am obsessed too. |

| -Lisa, I will take you up on that kind offer!! -Doug, can do ;-) It was a good thing it still had a bloom on the plant, else I might have not noticed the plant tag at all and passed right by thinking it was another pink anemone!! Interesting note...the tag says it is Zones 6-8. Somehow I rather thought it was hardy to zone 5. A note to the new usda hardiness zones that state I am in a zone 6- NOW IS THE TIME TO KICK IN PLEASE! LOL. I ended up putting it in a fairly sheltered location though, so hopefully that will help a bit. |
| 'CMK', maybe I had mentioned on some other thread that I did correspond with the developer of this plant and she told me that she suspects it can make it in zone 5 it is just that no one has ever tried it! |
| I'm too embarrassed to say what I've planted so far. I had made 2 trips south to NC and stockpiled loads of great plants. I certainly didn't need to purchase any more, but I've already made multiple trips to the nursery including 3 Itoh peonies, a bunch of rugosa roses, multiple epimedium, and the list goes on. AND, there's a great plant sale this weekend so I already have my list for that. Hmmmm.....I quit my job in March (without anything else lined up) so when it comes to plant shopping I should really ease up a bit. I can't.....it's a sickness....LOL!!! |
| Coreopsis star cluster Helenium fuego Several different astrantias (to keep the snails away) Hosta orange marmalade Red hot poker fire dance Dwarf meadow rue Pericaria lance corporal and the other variegated one Fescue grass Replaced Gaillardia apricot that I lost Lobelia fan scarlet That's it so far but not done because the deer feasted on my yard this winter......... |
| I just gated off an area from the dogs. It had 3 clumps of heliopsis but I've added: -yellow asiatic lilies (not sure on the name... took them from elsewhere in the yard) -yarrow moonbeam -tall phlox, blue paradise -golden and purple sage -planted money plant seeds and moved 2 stella d'oro from elsewhere in the yard, too, along with a few hostas I'm going for a yellow/purple color scheme in this one so hopefully it works out. I'm now on the hunt for ladybells (love the Adenophora Tashiroi on bluestone so those might get on order if I can't find any this weekend) |
| I purchased a new house and it is blank. I am making all new gardens. I have been purchasing so much every year I cannot list all the stuff I have purchased this year so I will list a few things. 7 rose bushes
| Julia child rose Pink/purple and orange flowered lewisia (x1) Trumpet lily Primula acaulis sempervivum Saturn NOID peony (I have to ask the person who gave it to me) Iris before the storm Endless summer hydrangea This list is kind of everywhere, I usually just nab what I find for cheap...the rose is an exception. I just had to have it. I still don't have much of a garden, but in time i'll build it up to something people want to look at. Waiting for bloomerang lilacs to show up.... |
| I moved into my house three years ago. There were two small gardens that my neighbor and my mom gave me perennials to fill, but I concentrated on veggies. This year, I decided to skip the veggies and spend some time adding flowers. So far I have added: 2 Hellebores (no idea what color. I got them from a GW trade and I didn't ask so I get to be surprised next spring) 22 Gladiolus callianthus corms (Peacock Orchids) 3 bareroot Tricrytis 'Blue Wonder' 2 white Lycoris bulbs (spider lily) a packet of dwarf dahlia seeds several Purple Prince zinnia seeds I also have two single yellow, two double pink, and two yellow/red collarette dahlias to be planted In addition, I added a new garden as a memorial to my mother-in-law containing I also have a few seedlings that I will be planting as soon as they are ready: I have some other seeds started, but I'm still waiting for them to germinate including lavender hardy hibiscus and three more types of aquilegia (double blue, winky mix, and a pink, blue, and black mix). Whew! |
| not strictly sure whether these should count since they are seedlings and may not actually go in the garden for another season........but here goes Campanula sibirica glaucidium palmata angelica sylvestris cenolophium denudata chaerophyllum roseum pimpinella epilobium angustifolia album digitalis dalmation purple, dalmation white, Pippa, Polly. Sutton's apricot, albiflora, grandiflora, lutea Aquilegia - various echinacea bravado Aconitum Ivorine Thalictrum -various primula sieboldii, secundiflora, japonica, bulleyana, beesiana, auricula atrantia Hadspen Blood, Shaggy, Claret hardy geranium - various inc, Syabru, wallichianum, incanum, sobobilferum(sp? - getting late) There's a heap of stuff, really because I am moving from a sunny allotment to a poplar wood......so it's all a bit experimental....and I am broke so it's seeds and cuttings only. |
| Hmm, let's see Agastache 'Blue Boa' And ta da! - Clematis 'Princess Kate' I'll be the one doing the early light dawn patrols. Good Heavens, I'm in the over exuberance mode. |

| :) I added Anemone Wild Swan to my wish list in this thread on May 16, and found one today. That was quick; usually my searches take much longer to fulfill! Pretty plant; I hope it is happy where I planted it. |
| For sure 'gyr' keep us up to date re "Wid Swan". It seems to be such a cool plant if it lives up to its hype. |
| 'boday' I see you have Heliopsis "Tuscan Sun". I planted 5 of these as part of a border last June. They are bloom machines which flourish in dry conditions. I would have rated them a perfect plant (for me) except that in their first year they were aphid magnets in August. I did my best to rid them of these aphids but w/o success. If this repeats again this year to the same degree I may, albeit reluctantly, replace them. |

| I ended up buying some oriental lily bulbs at Costco. And some fall anemones. And 4 clematis. I don't know where the clematis will go but they are just tiny things now anyways and need to be grown along in pots for a while. Then I noticed Brent and Becky's bulbs had Buy one get one free sale! Two years ago I purchased lilies and dahlias during their spring sale and the plants were fabulous. Much plumper bulbs than the ones I just got at Costco. Do I really have room for more lilies though??? I have to protect them from deer. Oh yes and I received my Bluestone order from their sale. |
| Since April I have planted these plants: - 1 Eleutherococcus sieboldianus 'Variegatus' |
| Rouge It's your fault on the 'Tuscan Sun' and 'Mercury Rising'. I forgot to mention I've got Actea 'Misty Blue on order as well. I'm intrigued by the leaf color against some ferns I Hopefully it's as shown on photos. I noticed your 'Cosmic Eye going strong. Do you add sand mix for better drainage? I've had very little luck with coreopsis. We're about a month behind your area, so I'm just getting started. |
| boday, I have 3 CEye in 3 different locations and all made it through this somewhat trying winter. I treated them the same as all my perennials with regards to the soil mixture I used when planting them. But it does appear to me that they are pretty hardy for coreopsis. Be sure to let me know how your TSun fare this summer. I hope they are great bloomers as I experienced BUT I also hope that they do not get hit with aphids as did mine. (Btw, I think, given that I am in Canada, that your USDA zone 4 is somewhat equivalent to my zone 5?) |

| -Doug, do let me kow how your Chiastophyllum does! Might have to break down and order it at some point. It is such a coincidence...just yesterday one of our sales reps came to the nursery with a van full of sample plants. Naturally I spotted a Chiasto. from across the parking lot and came running to get a better look, lol. Too bad the manager wouldn't order any ;-( I weep...Lol. |
| Rouge Sorry, I didn't mention it - I'm just down the road a piece, in Winnipeg. I've got a good microclimate, normally good snow cover and in the city I treat plants as zone 4. I've even got a patch of Hakonechloa going for a few years. |
| boday, zone 4 might be tricky for having coreopsis return consistently but give "Cosmic Eye" a try. If you can plant it closer to your home's foundation, giving it extra mulch in the fall may help it return next spring. For sure let us know how it goes it you do decide on CE. |
