| I recently bought one rock cress plant. It had violet-purple blooms. Most have finished and I have a few unopened buds. I recently got some of the seeds the plant dropped because the bees were busy on my rock cress. So I have started to get them and now have put some seeds (2-4) in a plastic bag with paper towel. My question is how long does the seeds take to germinate. Some seeds have also fallen in some small holes i made so they can hopefully grow back, will it be long like 1 month or short like 1 week? Furthermore info I had planted my rock cress with out loosening the roots and just dug it up and had seperated and loosened the roots. Now since they bloom in spring in February, should I divide them? And how do I? Would I just spray the roots with water and seperate their? |

| I'm not sure which plant you mean by Rock Cress - could it be Aubretia? In which case I can't help you with the seed germination question except to say, if it is Aubretia the seedlings might not come up the same colour as the parent. it tends to revert to its native mauve. As for dividing it I can't see why it would need dividing after just a few months. Aubretia looks good left to form big cushions two feet or so across, especially if spilling over a wall. It would rather defeat its best feature IMO to divide it into prissy little clumps. It retains its form best if clipped over with the shears after flowering. All this is predicated on my having guessed correctly what you mean by Rock Cress. |
