Bugs on my lanceleaf coreopsis

I need identification of a beetle that is infesting my lanceleaf coreopsis. It has orange and black longitudanly stripes on its small body. It does not fly. My plants are heavily infected but no other plant is touched including diffent varieties of coreopsis. Any one with any ideas?

Nope, these are hard backed beatles about the same size as a lady bug but longer than they are wide.

Can you take a photo? That would make it pretty easy. Or go to google images and type in a description of the bug and see if a photo looks like it.
