RE: what is it

Hi Ken,

That is artemesia oriental limelight,it can be a thug here in zone 5/6..

I had mine planted in part shade and loved it so much that I moved it to a full sun bed....tsk,tsk,tsk...I have been trying to pull it for two years.

Be careful!!!

That was no friend who gave you that plant. LOL I think it is really pretty but I was warned and put it in a bed of it's own. I cut off the flowers, too. They are insignificant.

Hi Ken I am always so impressed with your answers and your website with all the detailed info. Thanks so much!
I have this in my garden that came with the house we bought last year and the nursery (Conan's) said it was a false spirea...it is really invasive that spreads by underground runners....it gets about 30" high and if you can keep it contained it makes for a nice shrub like plant.

Hope that helps! Brenda

ken, what website is brenda referring to?

i love this artemesia. surely you have so much room that you can let this spread in certain spots.....? i keep mine whacked back to control height. happy in junk soil.

RE: what is it

Brenda...I would find a new nursery if that is the kind of info they are giving you...Do a search of false spirea(astilbe) and you will see that it is a totally different looking plant..

Ken, Mindy is right,it is a beauty IF you can keep it under control.

RE: what is it

and in my friends defense ... i probably demanded it ... EVERYTHING is subject to generic roundup .. lol ...

RE: what is it

brenda5b - Sorbaria sorbifolia and Astilbe chinensis are both commonly known as False Spiraea (the perils of common names again). But Ken hasn't got either. His plant is not a shrub but a hardy perennial.

RE: what is it

Ken, beware of this one. It really is a thug - took me years to eradicate, after planting just one.

RE: what is it

Like houttunyia, goutweed, Jerusalem artichoke or yellow archangel, not a plant I would ever intentionally plant in my garden :-)) YMMV
