Mine start out this color, but then get whiter as the bracts continue to expand. Does yours remain this color the entire bloom period?

They get about as white as the prominent one in the middle of the photo. Last year they didn't ever get really white. I was hoping that it was because the tree was so young....

Mine looks like yours and it's probably 8-10 years old. I think that's just the way this tree looks. I much prefer the native dogwoods, but the nurseries seem to discourage trying to grow them in my area because of the disease they are prone to. Totally Confused

There is a new Cornus kousa x nuttallii hybrid called 'Venus' that is worth checking out. The flowering bracts are very white and look like fluttering moths or handkerchiefs. I have not grown it, but have seen it flowering in its pots, and it is truly phenomenal. I have added a link with its picture. http://www.about-garden.com/a/en/3209-x-cornus-kn30-8-venus-r-dogwood/

My next door neighbour has one that has tons of very white flowers. Mine has fewer flowers that stay a creamy white rather than a brilliant white. We have different varieties so it's probably largely an issue of the nature of each variety. But mine is also in more shade so that likely has an impact too. Do you know what variety yours is? Is it in shade?
