For sure to generate lots of discussion. I see "Rozanne" is one of the nominees.

I can't believe they put those plants in the top 10 plants since 1913. That list is terrible. "Rozanne" is ok, but I wouldn't even put it in the Top 20 plants. I know others like it a lot, but I haven't been that impressed with it. Yucca 'Color Guard' isn't on the list and it looks good year-round with no effort at all! There are also many better Heucheras than the one they selected.
|
To be fair echinaceamaniac I think they are selecting the top 10 plants only considering those that have been 'launched' at the Chelsea Flower Show (since its inception in 1913).

Maybe it would make more sense to have the subject line read Plant of the Cetenary rather than 'perennial'. Only a few of the plants listed are considered herbaceous perennials - the others are trees and shrubs. Most horticulturists consider those plants to be exceptional performers - "good doers" is the expression typically used..........echinaceamaniac's personal opinion to the contrary :-) And these are amatuer gardeners nominating their favorites. Not exactly something that has the sanction of the garden show or RHS itself.

Maybe it would make more sense to have the subject line read Plant of the Cetenary rather than 'perennial' I had tried to change it earlier but one cannot edit the "subject of a posting". Not a glaring error given that if one is interested all is revealed when one visits that link.

After 100 years, someone gardening for almost 40 should have at least heard of them all before. Maybe they are more well known on the other side of the pond.
