How long does it, in general, take for them to start showing some green growth? I have some that are a few weeks old (if I remember correctly), but nothing is showing yet.

They should be showing growth if they are a few weeks old. Did you soak the root for a couple of days before you planted them? That is usually a good way to get bare root plants off to a good start because it rehydrates the root. If yours are showing nothing then give them a good soaking and they may take off

how deep did you plant them.. the crowns.. not the roots???? ken

No soaking...I will try that, thanks! I am pretty sure I only did up to crown, but I will double check. Thank you for reminder. How long should I soak? Warm or cold water?

Are you going to dig them up to soak? Don't do that. They should be in the ground and kept moist, but not wet, all summer. Where are you? It is very hot here in Clemson (high nineties) and I wouldn't plant bare root phlox now. |

I am in 7 b in NC. I usually water daily, or near daily, the first week. I usually water every 2-3 days after that, if no rain. I wonder if I should just dig up and return? I knew I was a few weeks late, but I was hoping it would be okay. One set was planted May 4...the other May 16 (I just checked receipts). I planted freesia bulbs and lily bare roots on May 16, also. The lilies are turning a little green, but not much. I wonder if they were all a bad idea, this late. They would not be difficult to return, though.

Our temps have mainly been in mid to high 80s. Thanks.

Wait....will the growth come from the stem, or the roots? I do have some little seedlings coming up an inch or two from the stem of the May 4 phlox sets. I didn't plant seeds there this year. I think they may be phlox....maybe there is hope? I see freesia sprouts, too. :)

Let us see if this works. Are the little seedlings the phlox?
