This was an impulse purchase. It has such a striking flower, a curving spire of deep purple touched with pink, and the leaves are different too, silvery grey. Not til I got it home did I read a few words on the tag that sent alarm bells ringing in my head. "Site where you can enjoy its spreading habit." Uh, oh! Then I remembered having had long ago a white flower that I think was a lysimachia that was nightmarishly aggressive. Is "aggressive" true of all lysimachias? Thanks.

Supposedly if it spreads, its from self sowing, not at the root. I can't attest to that personally, the one I had was only with me briefly. Bloomed and promptly died, it behaved like a biennial not perennial plant in my cool zone 8. I didn't replace it.

In my favorit nursery Lys. atropurpurea (Beaujolais) is listed as hardy to z6 and as reseeding and short lived Another site says it spreads in moist soil but not as wild as the common Lys.

See link below for information posted by the Missouri Botanical Garden about 'Beaujolais.' Another recommendation is to check your state's posted/published list of invasive species. My ND neighbor grows Lysimachia clethroides/gooseneck loostrife and I've kept a close eye on it since 2006. In his garden it's contained by driveway pavement, granite patio & landscape timbers. It hasn't (so far) found its way into my own garden.
