Birds vs. Japanese Beetles

I am killing as many Japanese beetles as I can, but today I saw a mockingbird swoop down and get one! I have about 6 bird feeders and two bird baths. It was so great seeing a bird helping me out. Now if I could only attract a thousand more mockingirds!

nice..

there has been a mocking bird living somewhere next to the house.. it makes it "mocking" calls for hours and hours straight... neat sounding.. but gets a bit tired when you are working outside all day with it!!

Becareful what you wish for!!! LOL!!
Those darn beetles just showed up here. They destroy my Mountain Ash tree, pussy willows, rose bushes and grapevines every year. I quit putting out traps- they actually draw them to your plants with the scent of the lure :(

I think starlings will eat them too.
We have more every year and I gave up on hand picking them like I did the first few years. I put up traps now but I'm lucky that we have a big enough property that I can locate them a couple hundred yards away from our house. I'm keeping track of how many I dump out of the traps and I've passed five gallons for this year. I'm not exaggerating.
I hope most of those didn't get a chance to lay eggs for next year but one thing is certain. It's more than five gallons of Japanese Beetles that will never eat anything again. bwahahaha : )
I know people say not to use the traps but I like that they don't kill any other bugs unintentionally and there's no poisons. I'm seeing very few now in my yard close to the house but there are still millions in the elm trees back where the traps are. I'm going to kill them all. : ) The mockingbirds will have to find something else to eat.
