I've read online that Early Sunrise Coreopsis is a short lived perennial. Does it help to encourage the plant to reseed? and how does one do this? Should I stop deadheading at a certain point before the end of the season?

I have had a couple of these for the last 3 years. They come back very well every year. I do dead head seriously so they bloom from mid June until early Sept here in north of Chicago. They do get bigger every year. So last fall (mid september), I noticed one of the plants was getting shallow in the middle. So I divided it up and throw half away (running out of space to plant). And put fresh soil to fill the hole. This year. A fesh plant come out in the middle, a little smaller than the other undivided one. But more vigirous and covered with bloom now. The only thing I do not like them is that they do spread. So make sure you have enough space for them. Or divide them up once every 2-3 years. For me, they are long lived, really care free, and I do dead head them until they stopping flowing so I did not even know that they are short lived. I was just trying to preventing them from self seeding.

Thank you Vivian. I appreciated hearing your Early Sunrise expeience. I look forward to seeing what happens after Winter and with the plant's first Spring. I'll dead head all through the summer. It is right now vigorously forming it's third wave of new flowers since I planted it. Have a nice Summer. James
