Flora, your pictures are stunning. Of course, you had a lovely model. :-)

I've been shopping around for weeks for ITOH Peonies and I'm wondering if your's could be "Julia Rose" instead of "Singing in the Rain"? All of the pix I see of her appear to be creamy yellow petals, flushed with salmon. Your's seems to be more pink\coral. Granted, I'm no Peony expert but just had to ask. The link below was the only one I could find that showed both cultivars.

Regardless of which one you have, it is BEAUTIFUL!!!

Singing In The Rain can definitely have such flowers. The color of the flowers varies from pink to yellow.
Here is mine:

Could be Julia Rose too:

Congratulations Flora! Now get more :)

What a stunner! Can't wait to see it covered in blooms.

RE: Singing in the Rain

I bought this from a reputable dealer so it should be Singing in the Rain, but we have had nothing but unseasonably drizzly, cold weather, so suspect the pink is more pronounced than usual.
If we should see some sun in the near future, I'm thinking the flowers will turn more yellow......I'll take an updated pic.
Please send us some sunshine and warmth, with all this crappy gray that plant is the only thing singing in the rain!

I love those colors...I can't resist any flower with a coral pink color. Flora, is that picture accurate color with your actual bloom? I've got some flowers in my garden that no matter which camera I use, the color won't come out accurate. And I've tried taking pics in all conditions, morning, noon and night, cloudy, sunny, shadow in sun...every possibility.

Mytime...I have the same problem you speak of with saturation....seems particularly with some of the purple blackish leaves or flowers, but the colors on this peony are bang on.
We are supposed to finally get summer here in next day or so, so suspect the flower color will change to more yellow.

I would agree with Flora - the color on her picture looks very close to the actual color.

Terrific variety. My second favorite Itoh Peony.

Alina - what would be your favorite peony?

wow. You should warn people before posting pictures like that. They are not the cheapest plants and you might have just downgraded the kids' college fund.

Love the foliage too.

Alina - that bartzella is gorgeous.....
Kato - they are expensive, but at least here the deer don't eat them.

They are much more affordable now than several years ago. For example, Singing in the Rain was available for about $17 at Wayside Gardens this spring (the source for my SITR too). Besides, they are very vigorous and need to be divided each 3-4 years. Great investment plants IMO.

And Flora is right, they are absolutely critter proof. Foliage stays nice during the entire season, big advantage.

I bought too more Itoh Peonies last year (Hillary and First Arrival). Did not bloom for me yet. I have a small garden, so I am replacing some of my herbaceous Peonies with Itoh.

RE: Singing in the Rain

$17.00 at Wayside, what a deal....I haven't found a deal like that in Canada......but your right, the prices are coming down. On one website they are still near a $100 for bloom sized plant.
Another baby I got this year is Yankee Doodle Dandy from Dominion Seed house. Can't wait for flowers next year.

RE: Singing in the Rain

Flora,

I decided to look at Yankee Doodle Dandy online. I should have not done this...

I ended up buying 5 more Itoh :o)

Paradise Garden has 22 varieties of Itoh Peonies, $49.99 each.
I bought a collection of 4 Itoh Peonies (Barzella, Lollipop, Berry Garcia, Unique - 30% discount for the collection) and a Candy Cane. Really looking forward to see these contrast stripes on Candy Cane and Lollipop. Have no idea where I will squeeze them in my garden. Fortunately, some of them are compact.
