By the time I caught up with my yarrow plants, they had fallen over and some of the ends had started to grow vertically from where they fell --- we've had too much rain for them, I guess. Now they are doing quite well, but have seriously dominated the surrounding perennials. Next year, I'll put in my 'modified' tomato cages (I cut them in half), but for this year ... what to do? I don't guess I can cut them back and expect flowers ... can I?

When I had yarrow in OH, I cut it constantly. The foliage is excellent filler for flower vases, can make a single bloom look like a bouquet. The flowers stunk like gym socks, so as soon as they went past their prime color, off they went. This made them bloom a lot longer than the ones in my Mom's yard that were left alone.

I gave up on it here in rain and clay soil, it flopped and smothered every spring. I think it behaves much better with more sun and better drainage and less fertile soil.

Some will always flop no matter what you do, it's their nature. You can investigate before buying if you get a flopper or not.
