I got several stachys from a test garden. The teacher knows some are 'hummelo' and some are 'rosea' but didn't know how to tell the difference between the two. Does anyone know?

It sounds like you have the following: S. grandiflora (syn. S. macrantha) 'Rosea' -- leaves and flowers are larger than the following; flowers are also more loosely arranged. S. monieri 'Hummelo' -- leaves and flowers smaller, and more tightly arranged than the above. Flower colour perhaps a deeper shade of pink/rose.

Don't know if this will help, but below are pics of Hummelo. I was interested mostly in the bees so the plant itself is secondary in the pics. These were taken last year. Sadly my much loved (by me and the bees) Hummelo didn't make it through in my flooded beds this spring. It had done very well for 5 years.
