I notice on my Invincibelle hydrangea a worm within "fused leaves" i.e. leaves at the tips appear to be stuck together. If you gently pry them apart, you will find the larvae (green worm) eating the tip of the branch. Yuck. Have you experienced this pest in any of your hdrangea arborescens? Treatment(s) besides squashing?

Hmmm….I've seen a few of my hydrangeas with these folded up leaves but haven't had time to go and investigate. I guess I will have to take a look. Thanks for posting.

You have one of several "leaf rollers" caterpillars that can be controlled with BT a bacteria based insecticide that is safe to use on any plant. Your local garden center should have several brands. Al

Ahh.... like PM2, I noticed this on one of my hydrangeas as I passed by it, but didn't have a chance to investigate - although, truth be told, I most likely would have been too scared to actually OPEN the leaves, lol. I would have probably just cut off the set of leaves and discarded. The anticipation of what I would find inside would have kept me from opening the leaves! Dee

I have them on my Annabelle and had them last year as well. It is also effecting some of my clematis. My clems I just peel apart and squish. On Annabelle I ended up taking the clippers to the leaves and dropping them in soapy water.

nhbabs, did your Annabelle still bloom...bloom late?
