No. Firstly imagine how much you'd need. I looked this up and it referred to a 6 inch wide strip where nothing will grow. Now multiply the length of edging in your garden by 6 inches to get a rough idea of how much soda you'd require. You'd need pounds of the stuff. And then imagine what happens when it rains? And is a 6 inch wide strip of death a look you'd want in your garden?

I'd have no truck with it and just edge properly with a spade or edging iron and create a neat and effective vertically sided ditchlet between lawn and soil. It looks smart, it works and it doesn't rely on killing all life in the soil.

That's how my beds are edged now but the grass still creeps in. I was thinking of sprinkling it just in the bottom of the ditchlet to prevent grass from crossing over. Baking soda is cheap and it come in large size bags :) I'd be willing to purchase as many as it takes if it works.

i doubt.. that throwing money at a physical labor job is going to work ... its all our dream.. lol .. it rarely works ...

one thing for sure... you will not have a nice crisp bedding edge ... it will kill the grass.. back into the lawn.. as the runners are all connected ... so.. no more crisp line...

i edge beds with RUp ... they are fine on 5 acres ...in suburbia... it would not be ok ...
