Blowups (picture heavy)

I have been experimenting in the garden with my new point and shoot camera. I am frustrated that the standard shots (pics from 6 to 12 feet away) are not good but this camera does a great job on the close-ups.

Here are a few taken this spring.

Great shots. Nice plants.

Nice pics Doug. I know what you mean. I got a new camera in late winter and have been trying to get a better feel for it. The auto-focus can be a bit maddening I've found, lol.

Ps. which Thalictrum is that??

Your camera sure does a nice job with colors. Beautiful picture and lovely plants.

What is the peachy rose?

DH has a honkin' big lens on his fancy camera that he uses for bird photography. He likes taking close-ups (I find out which plants he likes in the garden by looking at what he's taken pictures of!) He took one close-up recently that took me a few minutes to figure out what it was! Things can look so different when the scale is not what you're used to seeing...

Have fun playing with the new camera - but if DH is any indication, it could be a slippery slope to ever fancier ones! :-)

Here is a link that might be useful: what I initially didn't recognize....

Thanks all of you.

Real close close-ups seem easy but if I step back 10 paces the photos look cra&&y.

- good pickup on the Thalictrum CMK. It is an aquilegiifolium by the name of "Sparkler" (from Terra Nova)

- 'Woody' that rose is one of the no brainer "Oso Easy" series of roses. This one is "Paprika".

I wondered if that might be what it was... I have it too! Mine seems a bit more orange - I've noticed that colors are looking a bit different this year. I think the cool weather has affected them. Paprika is great! What do you have growing with it?

Very nice! Great photos and some pretty blooms - love the perfect yellow rose!

For sure thanks Dee. For you rose aficionados, is there any better yellow rose plant than the "Julia Child" rose...great flowers all summer, nice shiny foliage and pest free. I love it

What a visual treat, thank you! In addition to being an accomplished gardener, you have a great eye for lighting, color and composition.

Artistically I like the 2nd photo, but my emotional favorite is the last one. Good kitty.

Good kitty

Anything but.

But he is ours and we love him anyways.

He does love hanging out by that Nepeta's "Walkers Low".

Gotta say I do like kitty in what looks like the Nepeta/catmint was my favorite. Thanks for sharing your pics. I don't get to take many these days and enjoy the ones posted on GW.

Would love to know/can't identify #6 off the top of my head. Looks so much like my Actea/black snakeroot which doesn't show up here until nearly frost.

Thanks 'gardenweed'. I am glad you like them. I do hope you will post some of your garden this season.

#6 is a Thalictrum aquilegiifolium known as "Sparkler" (from Terra Nova)

Great close ups. My DH has an expensive camera (our son's reject when he upgraded to an even fancier and more expensive one) with several lens and other doodads. He hasn't learned to use all the extras and finds close ups are easier than ones of the whole plant or area. Since he has that good camera I haven't replaced my broken point and shoot.
