When working in the front garden yesterday, I came across this: Rouge, I'm assuming this the Delft Blue Riding Hood penstemon you brought me last summer - I think I planted it somewhere in this area.... :-) The color doesn't seem to match the information on the variety, but perhaps it is due to my neutral-to-alkaline soil? What does yours look like? The only other penstemons I have are some Husker Red so if this isn't the one you gave me, I don't know where it came from! It's very pretty. Does yours seed around? Husker Red does here. I wouldn't mind if this one did too! |

| 'Woody' as I recall the Delf Blue I had brought you was quite needy, Kudos to you for getting it through this past winter, I have a similarly mature Penstemon "Red Riding Hood" which is starting to come into its own. I will see if I can post a picture later today (assuming it is still standing after that crazy windy and wet weather of yesterday), The only other Penstemon I had was "Sweet Joanne" which was superb in terms of flowering but not very hardy in my experience. |

| I had assumed the Delft Blue came from your garden....? I didn't do anything special to it when planting (my usual procedure is to dig a not-too-big hole, loosen up the roots if the plant looks pot-bound, plunk the plant in the hole, put the excavated soil back around it and firm it up....!) I planted the penstemon where it gets decent sun and on the front half of the main front bed where it is on a slight slope. So it made it through the winter on its own! The sedum you gave me, on the other hand, appears to have vanished (or else I forgot where I put it!) I'm still wondering about the color on the Delft Blue - it sure doesn't match the images for that variety. Does anyone else on here grow that one? If so, what does yours look like? Whatever this one is is very pretty. I like it better than your Red Riding Hood :-) so thank you for this one! |
