Anybody else in the humid east grow California Fuchsia?

I love this plant, and wonder why it isn't more widely grown here. I've had mine for about a decade, and it is hardy, trouble free, blooms freely with a fairly extended bloom season of about 2 months, mid July-Sept.

Zauchneria aka Epilobium

Here's a link to a random nursery selling it, I chose this link mostly for the decent photo. I don't believe the Zone 7 rating they give this, most sources say 5, and mine has survived in a borderline 6.

I tried one from High Country Gardens, but it didn't survive the winter. We had a strange winter last year without our usual deep snow, so I may try again at some point. I am on the cold side of zone 5, so my area might just be too cold for it. Mine is on a well-drained slope that should be dry enough for it, along with some western penstemmons and agastaches.
