| Is it impossible to overwinter a foxglove in Calgary? I planted two last year close to the house, east facing and sheltered, but still lost them. Didn't mulch though.... if I mulched heavily is it possible to get them through the winter? We have those crazy chinooks, so it gets warm periodically during the winter and we get some freeze/ thaws. I LOVE those bell shaped flowers :( Just wish they'd stick around long enough to bloom.... |

| I can't speak for Calgary but it is difficult to grow digitalis here in Winnipeg; what I have found to work though is the grandiflora type. It has a small yellow flower so not the dramatic English garden type of foxglove, but pretty none the same. They are a true perennial as well, unlike the usual biennial foxglove. Many also grow "foxy" as an annual here. |
