| This is a second year plant and all of my other ech's. are doing very well(10 different varieties). Unfortunately this 'Maui Sunshine' seems very stunted. The mature bloom has weak and sporadic petals.
Anyone else have this plant and have good or bad luck? Compare this to it's healthy next door neighbor'Tiki Torch' |

| Also, is there another nice reliable yellow ech. that anyone recommends in case I have to dig up this Maui Sunshine? |

| Check out the info and images at the link below. Maybe your plants just haven't reached their peak yet? I've had some cultivars of Echinacea take as long as three years to really become established. |

| what a hoot.. hosta story ... i had this plant for 10 years .. royal super ... its parent was plantiginea.. the apple green 18 inch plant with 6 inch pure white flowers ... so the guy who is marketing royal super.. which is an edged version off momma.. is touring my garden ... and i point at this 6 inch high.. 10 year old weakling.. that has never flowered.. ever!!! i say.. what am i doing wrong.. i moved it.. fert'd it.. insulted it.. it just sits there .. whats up ... he look me dead in the eye and says.. THATS THE BEST ONE I EVER SAW .... lol ... most died as the inherent weaklings they were ... congrats mac.. you got the best one.. lol as to this plant.. its genetics makes it a red or purple flower.. and they have to go to the extreme of hybridizing to get a yellow.. which usually means the plant has many other problems.. its the same in the rose world ... red and white are the inherent dominant colors.. and as you move out toward yellow.. vigor abates ... especially when they try to go from the yellow to a peach ... not all of them.. but many of them.. are simply inherent weaklings ... ken |

| 1- it looks like that one has coneflower mites. They cause the distorted cones and cruddy petals. You can search around for remedies. I typically cut off the distorted ones and throw them out. You can also remove and destroy all the leaf litter in the fall to get the overwintering eggs. Your's does look like a well grown multi-branched plant, so keep ontop of the mites and hope for the better next year. Besides that, all maui sunshines are lot less "yellow" then the pretty marketing shot. I had one, but it quickly died after flowering once. The natural 'paradoxa' is the best of course. The hybrids have all seem to not do to well for extended years. |
