Please help identify this perennial

A neighbor gave us some plants he'd culled last fall during garden clean-up. They took to our garden well and this spring were covered with lovely purply-blue bell-like flowers, that faded over the weeks to an interesting combination of white and maroon. But I have no idea what they are, nor does our neighbor. What are they?!
