I love it too! What a great investment! People are going to fight over the house just for the patio! :-)

I love it too! When you eventually sell, this will be a huge selling point. It's gorgeous.

Gorgeous is right, enjoy, and I'm sure when you do sell this will be a big inducement to buy, I know it would sure get my attention if I was in the market. Annette

Love this beautiful stonework! Really like all the nooks and crannys for potted plants too. It sure would be hard to part with, but you now have visions for the new house ;) Good luck!

Beautiful, and maintenance free to boot. Whats not to like about that.

Gasp! Those look heavy. I like it a lot. Looks 'pricey', professional and solid. I'd call that a selling point indeed. Looks great. I'd hate to even show mine right now. It needs some serious work.

That is some great stone work! We are envious.

Lovely! I can just imagine sitting out there, listening to birds, soaking in the atmosphere, a mug of tea in my hand...

Lovely and well done. I can't wait for some plants to drape over it in ascot or two.

Wonderful. Would gate to leave it even in 3 years!

So nice! Can you share more information about the stone you used for the retaining walls?

The steps, retaining walls, and bed edging are Rosetta cultured stone. I don't remember if the flooring is traditional flagstone or cultured stone. I was starting over from scratch, so I had a choice of pretty much any style stone/brick/paver I wanted as long as it was appropriate for use as a retaining wall (some stuff isn't...who knew). I wanted a natural feel to the area, brick/paver stones seemed too formal, plus that's done to death around here - blah - but other stones (boulders) seemed too informal for my house. The Rosetta was actually was the landscaper's suggestion along with some sort of ledgerock (I don't remember exactly what it was), when I went to the supply places this was the winner. I chose the flagstone because, again, I didn't want a formal feel, it seemed a perfect choice, especially after I saw it in the display areas of the stone place with the Rosetta stone.

Of course--now I remember. Thought I'd remember that name since it was shared with the language learning company, but obviously, that was not the case. This time I printed out their brochure and posted the name under a saved photo in my business info. Wish their location availability info was easier to retrieve since we are all over the US; I'll have to contact them directly on a project by project basis, I guess. Hope you will share additional photos when the plants mature a bit more. Your patio is pretty now, but should be stunning then!

That Rosetta is really nice cultured stone. I was convinced from the photos that it was sandstone, and I grew up in a family of geologists. Is it that lovely in person? I am really impressed with the whole patio project, and pleased for you that it came out so well.

Babs: Yes, it really *is* that nice! Definitely a quality product. I'm sure a geologist would know the difference, but everybody else? Everyone who sees it IRL can't believe it's cultured stone. :0) (although, truthfully, I wouldn't know standstone if a chunk of it fell down and conked me on the head...stone is stone to me)

I would never want to leave! Now you have turned a weakness into a strong selling point when you are ready... and get to enjoy it in the meantime =)

What's not to love? VERY well done! I'm a fan of stonework and whatever your material is that you used, it looks top shelf. It's such a private, cozy spot to be. The blue cushion really pops. I think you made a good choice not to wait and I can't see how that won't be a selling point for you. Enjoy it, you did a great job.

Love the results and the planting areas around the patio. It definitely is a selling feature, but you'll surely enjoy it until then. For anyone with a sloped yard, this would be a great project to copy ... wish we were younger. (Of course, wealthier would work too.) Molie

OK, I am a geologist and I was thinking it was limestone. I've never been fooled by cultured stone before, so kudos to you and your crew! They did a good job with the big slabs, which are hard to get right. Impressive work, I love the combination of rocks and plants, and this looks like a really nice part of your landscape. Thanks for sharing the pics! |
