I've had a perennial in my garden for several years. It blooms in June, and spreads aggressively (I love it anyway). It stands about 1-2 feet tall, with elongated dark-green leaves about 4" long. The flower itself is about 2" wide, with four bright lemon-yellow petals circling a yellow or yellow-orange center. It almost looks like a giant buttercup! Another hint: the flower seems to close up a bit at night but wake up smiling in the morning. Can you help? Thanks....

I second noinwi - Oenothera fruticosa/Evening primrose, a rampant spreader but the volunteers are easily pulled up. It's growing in a couple of beds that it would cheerfully take over if I let it.

Thank you so much to both of you!! Evening primrose is exactly what it is. Noinwi, it completely matches the first picture in the second row on the page you sent. I had forgotten to mention that it grows in clusters, with several buds at the end of each stem. Yes, it is easy to pull up, and is very hardy. Greedy as it is to spread, there is an even bigger "garden thug" right behind it in the bed - goldenrod! The two of them have a merry old time trying to push each other out....
