Or another one? Height doesn't matter. Just want pure clean white!

I don't care for most of the Pow Wow series. They tend to be wimps in my garden (with the exception of Pow Wow Wildberry). White Swan is a nice, clean single white as well as a strong grower. I like Milkshake for a double white.

Good to know, ff. I don't have any echinacea as I guess I tire of seeing the usual purple, and don't do "hot" colors like red/orange/strong yellow. But saw a white one and thought I'd hunt that down! Thanks! Any others?

I like Pow Wow Wildberry. It's more of a bright magenta, not run of the mill purple. Doppelgänger is purple, but it's a double decker, so that makes it unusual. Sombrero Sandy Yellow is a nice medium yellow. The rest I grow would probably be considered "hot" colors. Since you mentioned you don't like those, I won't recommend any.

I, too, prefer the white echinaceas. I've always enjoyed 'White Swan', but pulled all of them out this spring and replaced them with 'Lucky Star. The 'White Swan' was reverting more and more every year, so I was ready for a change. There are other white cultivars out there that sound good - Fragrant Angel, Virgin, and a couple of others, the names of which escape me right now. Adona |
Here is a link that might be useful: More info about Lucky Star and others here

Alaska, Avalanche, Champagne Bubbles. Not particularly fond of drooping petals of White Swan. They look somehow sad/always thirsty. Both Fragrant Angel and Virgin died quickly here. |

White Swan is a very strong grower, a terrific carefree reliable bloomer - a good ol' workhorse! Be mindful that the blooms are not a pure, crisp white like a shasta daisy; they're more like a "dirty" white -- doesn't sound too appealing, I know, but they aren't true white and they're not off-white/almond, so not sure how else to describe it - ? . The large blooms are nice and look great combined with other colors or isolated but I wouldn't plant in close proximity to a pure white color. This is only my second season with Pow Wow white so haven't formed much of an opinion. I can say that they bloomed a fair amount of time last summer (bought them budded) and this is a short cultivar, not interchangeable with White Swan size-wise.

Wow! Great info! Didn't realize there were so many whites. Ff, I'll look for wild berry, I might like that shade better. And the doppelgänger and sombrero too. Did you order yours? As I didn't see these at my nursery. Adonai, by reverting, is that to the purple? And thanks for the additional mentions, ill check into those. Do you like Lucky Star better? Thanks for the link. Wieslaw, what zone are you? Used to feel the same way about the drooping petals, and may again!! Thanks for the additional mentions, your favorite? mxk3, noted on the color. Thx. I can handle that tone tho, so pow wow is much shorter? I did see some nice 4" and quart sized plants available locally.

I have Pow wow white and its performance is location specific. right place and it does great. I have white swan too and its a workhorse but the others are a "cleaner" white as others have suggested. Another decent performer is Primadonna white. I prefer the shorter ones to the tall gangly white swan as well.

Echinacea Virgin-medium height, heathy, green cone, white pedals held straight out, well branched with many flowers vigorous older variety. Best of all it survived years here until asters yellow took them down. Haven't grown coneflowers for a while now. But this would be my first to get when I'm ready to try again.

I got 'Milkshake' as a freebie last summer and tucked it into a very crowded garden bed thinking it would just die soon anyway. Well, lo and behold, not only did it live but it expanded and came back with a vengeance this year. It is now a sturdy little clump busily forming lots of buds. I planted several mail order plants of 'Pow Wow Wildberry' last year and even started some seeds of myself. It was an all around total dud in my conditions. An extremely weak grower with awful, tiny washed out pale pink blooms that were nothing like the deep rose-pink-magenta blooms I was hoping for. None of my plants survived the winter. Because of this experience, I will probably never be motivated to try out 'Pow Wow White'.

Interesting, Pow wow wildberry is a fantastic performer for me.

Yes, Pow Wow is a short cultivar

I've really been looking for a vigorous, tall growing echinacea of any color, but white would be great. I've tried 'Fragrant Angel' from mail order and it has hardly grown at all and this is it's 3rd year. It is still living but barely expanded this spring from last year and has not reseeded. It is also not as tall as I am looking for either.

I planted a single white swan when we were taking care of the place in anticipation of buying it in 2011, probably in mid to late July. It was in the little "pint" nursery pot. Last year it was a good sized clump and it's even bigger this year. Last year I planted a few pow wow whites that were in the same sized pot, as they didn't have the white swan. They don't look any bigger-the ones that survived. My vote is for White Swan. Plus I like the name better!

I think I will track down White Swan. I think some of the beauty of coneflowers/echinacea is the tall stem. short? and they look like any other daisy-like flower. to me, anyway. the reflexed petals also are unique. was overwhelmed with all the options on Bluestone Perrenials site. Fall shipment though. Interesting!!

| I like White Swan too. Tall, reliable and beautiful, unless the voles get to it - mine are recovering from near vole decimation 2 years ago. Also have a bunch of 'Primadonna White' seedlings, that are in their 3rd season. They didn't bloom the first year, were transplanted last year so it wasn't much of a show, but I'm so excited to see how they do this year along with the Pow Wow Wild Berry and Bravado seedlings. That photo of PWWB is very nice, I hope mine look like that, but in general I would have to say the other seedlings are much stronger growers than PWWB. I just bought seeds of Echinacea 'Baby Swan' and have a bunch of little sprouts. Supposedly a short (2 foot) cultivar of White Swan. Here's my white swan a few years back -
